A new puppy is exciting and a time for new beginnings. There are also many frustrations that can come with a new puppy. In this post, I am going to address some simple puppy training. Here are some of the most common puppy complaints that we receive as a Salt Lake City dog trainer.
1.) Issues with housetraining are very common. It is important to address housetraining immediately to ensure long term housetraining success. When you are not at home it is a good idea to keep your puppy in a crate. Most puppies will not potty in a small crate. When you are home with your puppy it is important to supervise him. Use Nature’s Miracle to clean up any puppy messes in the house to prevent re-soiling. In the beginning it is best to take your puppy outside to potty every hour on leash. Wait in one location for 3-5 minutes. When your puppy completes going potty give him a treat immediately. This will ensure awesome housetraining obedience.
2.) Play biting can be very frustrating. When your dog bites you say
“ouch” and then immediately remove your attention from your puppy. You can do this by stopping play and freezing. By freezing and not giving eye contact to your puppy, you will become very boring. Also give your puppy plenty of attention for not biting you. Lastly, you can have a play toy in your hand to redirect your puppy to chew on this instead of your hand. 3.) Many valuable objects can easily be destroyed. Preventing this from happening can create a more peaceful living space for you and your puppy. First of all it is important to perform dog training.
