Four Legged Scholars LLC – Puppy Training Salt Lake
Are you struggling with a puppy that barks when he wants something? We know this can be frustrating.
Let us help you teach your puppy to be more quiet so that your home is much more peaceful.
First, puppies respond well to consequences.
So if your puppy barks to get what he wants, and you give him what he wants then your puppy learns to bark to get what he wants.
Teaching your puppy to be more quiet requires consistent puppy training. Salt Lake owners who are consistent will this will expect to get great results.
Start by ignoring your puppy when he barks for something that he wants. Only give him what he wants when he is quite.
Eventually, you can add a “sit” command so that your puppy learns to sit when he wants something.
Here is an example. You have a ball that your puppy wants and your puppy is barking for the ball. Ignore your puppy by not giving your puppy eye contact and do not talk to your puppy.
Instead, put the ball away. Once your puppy is quiet for at least 5 seconds, get the ball out and give it to your puppy.
Once your puppy gets this, ask your puppy to sit before you give him the ball.
You can also teach your dog to sit and be quiet when:
- you want to hook his leash to his collar.
- you feed him dinner.
- you give him a treat.
- you go to pet him.
- etc.
Eventually, your puppy will realize that in order to get what he wants, he must sit and be quiet first. You can read more about this here (Nothing in Life is Free).
If you need help doing this we can help with puppy training. Salt Lake and surrounding areas is where we serve. We offer private and group puppy training classes.
