Four Legged Scholars LLC – Salt Lake City Dog Trainers
Are you struggling with a very hyper dog? We understand the stress. As Salt Lake City Dog Trainers, we want to help you have more peace at home with your dog.
There are many tools that you can use to help your dog become calmer and more peaceful.
1.) Training is very important. It doesn’t have to be intricate. A basic obedience class can nip many things in the butt.
Many owners notice that once begin training, their dog’s overall demeanor calms down. Salt Lake City Dog Trainers have many options for training.
We highly recommend that the class is reward-based. Punishment of course will increase your dog’s arousal level because fear is the common motivator.
Teaching your dog NILF (nothing in life is free) is very important as he learns that he needs to have good behavior to get what he wants.
Any commands that are going to stop your dog’s impulsive behavior are good to teach. These can include: stay, leave it, and wait at the door.
2.) There are many natural remedies that you can give your dog that can help your dog relax.
- Lavender Oil
- L-Theanine. Always best to check with your vet about this one.
- Tryptophan and Chamomile is in many calming dog treats. As Salt Lake City Dog Trainers, we have actually seen dogs become more relaxed by taking these. Follow the dosage on the package. Zukes makes a brand.
- Flower Essences. I really like Blume’s Farm and recommend them often. The remedies are very diluted and are like a homeophathic remedy.
- Rescue Remedy
- DAP or Adaptil
3.) Other tools that can help your dog calm down:
- Through the Dog’s Ear has relaxing classical music that has proven to relax dogs by lowering their heart rate and slowing their breath rate.
- The Thundershirt. It mimics a hug. Yes hugs are calming right?
- TTouch
4.) Petting your dog in a calming manner when he is stressed makes a world of difference. Rather than talking in a super happy voice and rubbing your normally as you would pet, stroke slowly and softly down your dog’s back and talk in a calming voice.
5.) Work on grounding yourself. Breath through your belly. Think positive thoughts. Avoid yelling at your dog. Instead teach him what you want to do.
Above all if you are struggling, it is important to contact a Salt Lake City Dog Trainer. At Four Legged Scholars LLC, Salt Lake City Dog Trainers, we are happy to help you!
